Thirty-four hospitals in Washington state, including six in Seattle, will have their Medicare payments cut based on federal quality measures that are supposed to control costs and improve care.
The measure, known as value-based purchasing, will penalize 72 percent of Washington state hospitals in the fiscal year that started Oct. 1.
And all six of the Seattle hospitals facing cuts will be docked more than the year before.
