Dr. Veena Shankaran had been treating her patient for colon cancer for almost a year when he came into her office and said he had to file for bankruptcy, move in with a family member and change doctors.
“I literally saw him every week, or every two weeks…but I had no idea this was remotely possible,” she said. “But when I look back, he couldn’t work, he didn’t have premium insurance.”
