The number of people who received prescriptions for assisted suicide under Washington’s Death with Dignity Act rose 43 percent in 2013 compared to 2012.
By the end of 2013, 89 different doctors had written prescriptions for 173 people for assisted suicide. Twenty-three different pharmacists filled those prescriptions. The majority – 91 percent – cited the loss of independence as a major factor in seeking assisted suicide.
