The Seattle City Council passed legislation that will fine people $27 for smoking marijuana in public – the same cost for those caught drinking alcohol on city streets.
The Seattle Police Department will first issue warnings to offenders, “whenever practical,” before handing out a citation, officials said in a release late Monday. Washington voters legalized marijuana in 2012, and the state is building the infrastructure for the newly legal market.
