The first time I heard the phrase “hospital affiliation,” I was baffled.
Everyone has a pretty good sense of what a merger or acquisition is, but the use of the word “affiliation” always made me feel like I hadn’t completely done my job as a reporter.
Have hospital executives actually invented a brand new type of partnership? Or is this semantics to prevent the panic that employees and communities feel when the words “merger” or “acquisition” are uttered?
